I am Gaëlle Aminata Colin, a scholar artist currently completing my PhD in Sociology at SUNY Stony Brook University. My research sits at the intersection of Black Feminist Thought and Food Studies.

Alongside my scholarly pursuit, I develop my creative practice in the kitchen and through visual art. Photography was my first artistic practice but I now equally engage with food and baking as a form of artistic expression. My art is intuitive, centers sensory and embodied experiences, and explores joy in connectedness

My scholarly and artistic interests encounter each other in many of my research projects and I develop visual and art-based qualitative research focusing on women within the African Diaspora.

I am Franco-Ivoirienne and grew up on a fruit farm in the French countryside.

A note on names: Gaëlle and Aminata are both equally first names and you are welcome to use one or both of them as you please. Aminata is a homonymous name given to me in honor my great-grandmother.
